Houston Museum in the Woodlands

Oh man,

If you ever get to the Houston area, you have GOT to stop in at the Houston Museum of Natural History and their annex museum in the Woodlands. Both are top notch museums with very impressive displays.

We filmed in both location for our upcoming television series and I enjoyed the heck out of being in both.

This is an Acrocanthosaurus that is on exhibit in the annex location. I LOVE this nasty critter. I would have to say that it is my third favorite dino, after Allosaurus and then Deoninychus.

Acrocanthosaurus?? I don't know what in the heck that is?? I thought it was a T-Rex...what are the differences in these two?

I understand your confusion. There are several differences between the two. First, this particular dinosaur has a tall ridge or spine on his back. It sort of looked like a sail. The other main difference is that this dinosaur has long arms and three fingers on each hand, rather than the short arms and two fingers of T-rex.

That's the Acro from Dallas isn't it? I'm planning a trip to Daas and I asked to make sure they had that Acro I've seen tons of pictures of... they don't have it anymore.:( I'll have to check it out next time I go near Huston:)

Best,

Brett

Hey Brett,
I'm not sure if Dallas has an Acro or not, but if they do...it will be this same specimen. I just love this cool dino!!!!

Hi George,

They used to. They appear to be doing some remodeling, so I asked. They don't have one currently so either they put it in storage, gave it to the Huston museum or maybe Ft Worth since they are also redoing their dinosaur exhibit.

I went to the LA NHM last year and of course they were also remodeling so this time I figured I'd ask;)

Great picture! These guys are my favorite.

Hope all is well with the TV show,

Best,

Brett
